Frequently Asked Questions

What is GateGuardX?

GateGuardX is an automated gate access control system that uses license plate recognition to open gates for authorized vehicles. It reduces manual checks, improves security, and provides a photo-verified audit trail.

Built, not bundled.
GateGuardX is a full-stack hardware + software system we built and support end-to-end.

How does GateGuardX work?

Cameras read license plates as vehicles approach. If the plate is authorized, the gate opens automatically. Each entry and exit is logged with a timestamp and photo proof for review and audits.

Does GateGuardX rely on the cloud?

No. Core functions run locally.

Gate operation and license plate recognition work on-site. Cloud access is optional and used for centralized management (like multi-site dashboards and shared authorized vehicle lists), reporting, and remote access.

What hardware is required?

A typical setup includes:
• An automatic gate (sliding, swing, or barrier)
• LPR cameras
• GateGuardX smart controller
• A local Mini-PC for processing

All required hardware except the gate itself is included. We can also advise on gate selection if needed.

Can we use our existing cameras?

Often, yes.

If your current IP cameras are (LPC/LPR rated), and provide a clear view of approaching plates, we can integrate them. If coverage or angles aren’t sufficient, we’ll recommend adding only the minimum cameras needed for reliable reads.

Is installation included?

Installation is not included.

Most customers use a local gate installer or electrician. We provide clear installation guidance and support during setup.

How long does installation take?

Most installations take less than one day per gate once hardware is on site.

The exact time depends on gate type, wiring access, and camera placement, but no reconstruction or digging is typically required.

What happens if a hardware component fails?

GateGuardX is built from three independent hardware components. If one fails, it can be replaced on-site in minutes without rewiring or complex setup. In most cases, on-site staff or a local technician can handle the swap.

Who manages GateGuardX day-to-day?

Day-to-day management is simple and usually handled by operations, security, or property staff.

Authorized vehicles, schedules, and rules are managed through a web dashboard—no technical expertise required.

What does the monthly subscription include?

The subscription covers:
• GateGuardX software
• System updates
• Technical support
• Cloud access for logs and management
• Authorized vehicle list management

How much does GateGuardX cost?

Pricing depends on the number of gates and locations.

You can get an estimate using our quick form. It takes 1–2 minutes and has no obligation.

Is there a minimum contract term?

Yes. The minimum subscription term is 24 months.

Where is my data stored?

All events are stored locally at the site. Cloud storage is optional and used only if enabled.

You control data retention and access.

Cloud access may also be used for centralized management (for example, managing authorized vehicle lists across sites).

What exactly is logged?

Each crossing can be logged with a timestamp, the recognized plate (when available), and photo proof. Logs are searchable for audits, incident review, and operations.

Can we control retention or privacy (especially for residential sites)?

Yes.

Retention is configurable, and privacy-focused modes can be used when needed (for example, reduced retention or limited storage depending on site policy).

Can it read dirty or damaged license plates?

Yes.

GateGuardX uses continuous scanning and multiple frames per vehicle approach, which improves accuracy even with dirty, damaged, or partially obscured plates.

What happens if a license plate isn’t recognized?

If a plate isn’t recognized, the gate does not open automatically.

Sites typically configure a fallback option such as:
• Manual gate control
• Intercom or guard override
• Temporary plate authorization

Missed reads are rare and fully visible in the event log.

How do visitors, deliveries, or guests get access?

Common options include time-limited plate authorization (temporary access windows), intercom/guard override, or other site-defined workflows. All access can remain auditable through event logs and photo proof.

How does temporary / guest plate authorization work?

You can grant time-limited access by adding a plate with a validity window (e.g., “Today 2–6 PM” or “Next 7 days”). After it expires, access is automatically removed without manual cleanup.

Do you support “Call-to-Open” as a fallback?

Yes (optional).

If plate-based access isn’t available for a visitor, sites can allow the gate to open via an authorized phone workflow—based on your rules and audit requirements.

What is Gate Assist Live?

Gate Assist Live is an optional service where 24/7 remote operators handle edge cases (vehicles not on the list). They verify the request and open the gate remotely according to your site’s rules—without an on-site guard.

Do you integrate with other systems (API)?

Yes (Enterprise).

GateGuardX can integrate with third-party systems via API for workflows such as logistics/yard systems, access control platforms, or internal tools.

Do you support my country and license plate format?

In most cases, yes.

We confirm during the quick estimate and configure recognition for your region. If you don’t see your country listed, tell us your location and we’ll confirm support.

Can access be restricted by time or rules?

Yes.

Access rules can be configured by:
• Time of day
• Days of the week
• Specific gates or locations
• Vehicle groups (employees, contractors, visitors)

Rules are applied consistently and logged for audit purposes.

Can multiple gates or locations share the same authorized list?

Yes.

You can manage plates centrally and apply them across multiple gates or sites. If needed, you can also isolate lists by gate/location and apply different rules per site.

Will GateGuardX work with my existing gate?

In most cases, yes.

GateGuardX integrates with most automatic gates using standard control board inputs. If you’re unsure, upload photos of your gate and control board and we’ll confirm compatibility.

Does it work for barrier arms and parking garages?

Yes.

If the barrier or garage gate is powered and has a standard control board input (dry-contact is common). GateGuardX can automate entry/exit and keep the same photo-verified audit trail.

Does it work without internet?

Yes.

Gate operation and plate recognition continue working without internet. Internet is only required for cloud features like remote access, reporting, or multi-site dashboards.

What internet options are supported?

Core gate operation does not require internet.

If you enable cloud features (multi-site management, reporting, off-site dashboard access), you can connect via Ethernet (preferred), Wi-Fi, or a cellular gateway (4G/LTE). Any reliable site internet works.

Can GateGuardX be used in residential communities?

Yes.

Residential deployments can use privacy-focused modes with limited or no data retention, depending on requirements.

What happens during a power outage?

GateGuardX supports standard fail-safe options such as manual overrides and backup power setups. We’ll help configure the best option for your site.

How fast is ROI?

ROI depends on how your gate is currently operated.

Sites that replace or reduce staffed gate coverage often see ROI in 1–3 months, based on labor savings alone.
Sites without gate attendants typically see ROI over a longer period, driven by improved traffic flow, reduced delays, and operational efficiency.

We calculate ROI based on your specific setup (gate staffing, traffic volume, and operating hours), and provide site-specific estimates during the quote process.

How do you calculate ROI? What if we don’t have guards?

ROI depends on your current setup:
• If you staff the gate, savings can come from reducing or removing gate-attendant labor.
• If the gate is unstaffed, ROI usually comes from eliminating delays, reducing manual exceptions, improving auditability, and preventing disputes.

We can estimate ROI using your gate traffic and current workflow, and we’ll show assumptions so the math is transparent.

Do you offer a warranty or guarantee?

Yes.

Hardware includes a warranty, and we offer a money-back guarantee (details depend on the kit and plan).
